In the world of strength and conditioning, learning how to move others—not just physically, but also psychologically and emotionally—is paramount to getting the most out of them. People are the ultimate performance variable, and understanding how to effectively blend knowledge of proper training with the nuances of human behavior is integral to helping athletes achieve their ultimate goals. Unfortunately, while much attention has been given to the science of physical training, little attention has been given to the science of communication. Conscious Coaching The Art and Science of Building Buy-In bridges this gap. Readers learn the foundational principles of improving relationships, enhancing engagement, and gaining the trust of athletes through targeted communication. And, every bit as important, readers also learn concrete strategies to apply these principles in day-to-day coaching situations they will inevitably encounter. The result is a game-changing book that sets the stage for coaches to create a culture of success not only within sport, but also beyond. Conscious Coaching is a movement and its time has come.

The book is exceptional. I've been meaning to write this book for some time now. While this took me a while to read, without question, it was worth the time investment. In short, the book is for all coaches, teachers, and communicators. Readers will come away with a better understanding of working with different athletes and personality types to be an effective and impactful coach (teacher or leader). How you are as a coach is dependent on accurately knowing yourself and knowing the characteristics of the person you work with. We are all different and there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to coaching, communicating, and leading.

I will begin "re-reading" this book again soon for a better and deeper understanding of the personality "archetypes." This alone is hugely valuable. To my knowledge, there is not another book available like this. I truly appreciate the author's transparency in sharing his own story of struggle and sharing many other stories and experiences to "connect the dots" with the concepts made throughout the book.

Extremely happy to see all the success this book is having because it certainly "lives up the hype."

Brilliant and innovative. Many takeaways and practical applications. This review does not give justice to the work.
"Know thyself, know thy athlete."
Highly recommended for all coaches and teachers.

Conscious Coaching The Art and Science of Building BuyIn eBook Brett Bartholomew Reviews

This book was fantastic! It was easy to read and follow along with. Brett did a great job of combining scientific theories with real life experiences so you could get a clear picture of what he was talking about. The stories were real and authentic so it was easy to translate that into similar situations I've had with current and former athletes. I loved the athlete archetype section and plan to reflect back on that chapter opften. Overall if you want to coach more than just the X's and O's, this book is a must read. It will also help coaches who are struggling with understanding/coaching the "millennial generation". I can't say enough good things about this book!
I've followed Brett's work for quite some time and most recently between his podcast interview on the Body of Knowledge Podcast and this book has pushed me to give a review which I rarely take the time to do.
What Brett has compiled is what I see as the epitome of the convergence of reflection and experience. As a young coach and clinician myself I have strived for years to prove to people that experience doesn't matter, that what I do and what I know are more important. Brett understands the role knowledge and the details play but he explains how context and the coach-athlete relationship supersedes that at times and compliments it at others. His ability to derive lessons from other coaches, athletes, and his own self-reflection is something that I truly admire in a professional who has been in the field over time. His ability to be concise with the lessons and provide it to us in actionable ways is something that I admire even more. This book will not only serve as a great read for myself but will be required for future coaches and students at my facility. It is that good. Context is king and Brett brings that to light in a way that provides insight and thought-provoking language. I would highly encourage anyone, even if outside the field of athletics/performance/movement etc. to utilize this as a way to look at relationships.
By purchasing this book, you're 'consciously' taking steps towards becoming a better coach and having a greater impact on the clients or athletes you serve. Brett has really taken the time to go beyond coaching as merely understanding program design and the technical side of training to what really matters connection.

Even if you're incredibly passionate about knowing all the minute details of the training side, if you're not connecting with the people you serve on an interpersonal level you're missing a huge opportunity. As the saying goes, "A good program executed well is better than a perfect program done poorly". And without buy-in there will always be a missing piece of the puzzle

Brett's book serves as a way to better understand both yourself as a coach and how to understand, build trust, and communicate with those we are trying to help. I recommend Conscious Coaching to anyone looking to sharpen the saw and hone their craft and would say this is a must read for young coaches in the industry.
Are you a performance coach? Are you a teacher? Are you a human being period? If you answered yes to any of these, you need this book. Hands down one of the better reads I've had in recent years. Brett is a guy that gets it and this book reflects that. Everyone from professional athletes to the youngest children have one thing in common, they're people. Conscious Coaching is about diving into the person and helping them rather than specific outcomes. This book drills home the importance of listening to understand rather than listening to respond, all while being a sound leader. Read this book.
I have worked in the teaching/ coaching industry for close to 20 years (S&C/ athletic performance focus) and have read many great field related books/literatures. This book encompasses so many facets of coaching people (first) and it is authentically written with passion and detail! Brett has great experience in this field and he masterfully transferred that wisdom into this book. There are many "aha moments" and learning opportunities for readers of all athletic/sport backgrounds and years of experience. As an educator (licensed school admin) and certified S&C professional I can guarantee you will pick up on best practices and give great thought & reflection to the teachings and sharing in Conscious Coaching! I highly recommend this to all teachers, coaches, and innovators!
